Everyone knows carbon fiber is better!

Carbinfinity Carbinfinity – Recycled Carbon Fiber Products

Carbon Fiber can improve many products by making them lighter, stiffer, stronger and cooler.

Carbinfinity started as merely an after hours experiment gone wrong. Real Carbon – our parent company, was asked to quote on producing rod stock. The project goal was simple – re-create a method for manufacturing the “forged” carbon fiber look created by Lamborghini and Callaway.

At first this method was alien to us, our background was pre preg roll wrapping, two part mold packing, vacuum bag compression layup etc. All for aerospace, aviation, space and defense applications. Our working knowledge of composites comes from 30 years of using these techniques. However, making consumer goods with a brand-new manufacturing technique was completely alien. You mean to tell me that we need to shred our beautifully woven materials? Speaking from my own perspective, this was painful, and I couldn’t imagine why anyone would ever want to do this. Surely this reduces the usefulness of the product? Simply put, yes it does.

For all intents and purposes, the strength of carbon fiber comes from two things, the fact that you are using essentially pure carbon in a fibrous form, and that you are weaving this together to further increase the tensile strength. Chopping it up and shoving these short fiber strands into a mold seems crazy, at least to me. On the other hand, what it actually opens up is a realm of recycling that we had never considered. We had never considered the dumpster loads of off cuts as a potential gold mine for manufacturing…

We removed the existing plastic handle from this knife and replaced it with a forged, recycled carbon fiber part. We think it looks great!

Recycled carbon fiber does all that and helps reduce landfill and make the Earth a better place!
